Summarizing the WHO report on Social Connection
250 pages in 4 unsurprising sentences
Last week, the World Health Organization dropped a monumental 200+ page research document on the importance of social connection.
Some of their findings, brutally summarized:
Older people are more lonely.
Single people are more lonely.
Poorer people are more lonely.
Marginalized people are more lonely.
Africa (24.3%) has twice as many lonely people than in the Americas (13.6%). Teenage women (24.3%) are most likely to suffer from loneliness. Why? TBD? (Any guesses?)
I'll hypothesize that the transition from adolescence to adulthood is when people start to care more about the quality of relationships over the quantity of relationships. And since women are growing up in such a critical, self-identity-destroying time, and they're maturing faster than teenage boys, they find themselves in a situation where they're unsatisfied by the people around them, craving more depth, but struggling to find it.
More on that later.
If you're looking to combat loneliness in your community, there's a decent chance that helping the community make more money is the best thing you can do for them.
I'm helping the CEO of a booming company build a workshop to empower her salespeople to double or triple their income into the 150k range by shaping the vision of the future they can create for themselves. If you lead a team that needs to step up their game, book a call with me next week.
Plus, If you're living in Los Angeles and want to experience the feeling of being truly seen and practice seeing another person, I'm co-hosting a workshop on listening and seeing others at Moss co-working space in Venice today at 6pm.
Hope to see you there! Let's build some social connection together!
