Lonely for the sake of growth
Many of us think of adventure as a grand action, a trip, a voyage, a journey into the unknown.
And yet, the running joke in the storytelling community is that real treasure was (and often turns out to be) the friends we made along the way.
Surely, the traveling will make stories to tell new and old friends at parties and sit downs, but the people in any place become the center of the moment.
In Israel, where I am now, the stories of food, of war, of celebration are told through those living it, coping with it, evolving through it, or those who were unlucky enough to die.
And people exist both near and far.
A new group activity with a new group is as much as adventure as a trip in that sense. The stories we carry can fill libraries.
If you are craving adventure but life has kept you still.
Consider going somewhere unexpected, and meeting someone new.
And asking one of these questions:
Instead of Where are you from → “Tell me about where you grew up?”
Instead of What do you do for work → “What is your favorite part of your job?”
Instead of How old are you → “How do you celebrate your birthday?”
Weird, yes.
Adventurous, definitely.
Enjoy,
O
