KOREAN POP MUSIC VS DEMONS
I'm going up up up.
K-pop Demon Hunters is a popular movie. I watched it. If you’re like me, you’ll find it phenomenal.
The movie follows Rumi, a popular singer, wrestling with the use of her voice.
Very on brand.
If you’re in need of some feel good fun, delicious music, and a reminder that our flaws are important parts of ourselves — check it out on Netflix.
I get why kids will watch it 3 times.
When I’m not speaking or making shows, I work with kids in rehabs.
Kicking the ass of depression. (Depression kicks back.)
I help kids tell the story of their struggle.
Turns out, when they share what they’re going through, the other kids light up.
“I didn’t know you also felt that way.”
“You hear the voices too?”
“Oh my God. I’m the same!”
There’s a weird sense of camaraderie I get to witness of kids comparing symptoms.
And there’s a strange lightness that comes from sharing the hard things.
The drug use, the extremely negative thoughts, the dismal outlook.
The light shines in the dark places.
One of the kids puts it best (with my help):
Sometimes, to find the fire in you, you need to turn the lights down low.
What he means, you’ve got to let your darkness show.
Sometimes that’s the best way to find someone else’s spark, or for you to find your own.
If you need more of that sauce today, try it with K-pop.
Enjoy,
O
P.S. Did we ever find out if Swedish Fish were from Sweden?
