Human connection is now a privilege
An observation from author Simon Sinek,
We live in a society where talking to a human is now considered a luxury.
Call a bank or an airline and you’ll speak to a robot, but if you have high enough status, you get to talk to a person.
Obviously, this is because people cost more than AI. But most people would prefer to be served by an imperfect person, because we value working together towards a goal.
And yet therapists, who are more in demand now than ever, fear losing their jobs to empathetic AI.
I’ve spoken to ChatGPT at length about my problems, and it has given me more answers than my therapist has - but I’d take human therapy 10/10 times over Chat.
My therapist has given me space. My family and friends give me space, attention, and presence. And with presence delivers both the urgency and lightness of being.
Not sure either of those can be replaced anytime soon.
