Hannuka #8: The Final Candle

Tonight, Jewish families around the world lit the final Hannuka candle, celebrating miracles of past times, praying for healing, peace, and — importantly — recognizing that we are all lights, and that shedding light is the only way to make darkness go away.

Shedding light means illuminating issues, even if a solution isn’t yet available.

In conversation, it works the same.

First, acknowledge the problem.

Even if you don’t have a solution, pointing something out and saying, “This can be better,” is the start of making it so.

I imagine many of us (myself included) are afraid to shine light on dark areas.

May this coming year be one for shedding light, unabashedly.

I know I will.
