Cowardice, in action.
dangerous comparisons between doctors and daters
I started the Better Listener email because I needed a growth lever.
Seth Godin, an award winning author and blogger, wrote a post that said something like, “If you want to be an author, and you journal every day, but you don’t publish anything… you’re a coward.”
It was that day that I started the Better Listener.
It was supposed to be tips on listening.
At first, I campaigned to get everyone I know to read it.
Why sign up?
It’s going to help you be a better listener.
So?
There are a lot of email lists about the same thing. Well, bigger.
Jefferson Fisher has his email list which is always:
What to say when ______.
It works. Three things to say in any situation.
That’s what he build his brilliant platform off of.
What to say when ______.
Name any situation.
There’s a video of him in the passenger seat of his truck telling you three things to say back to that.
His newsletter has over a million readers by now.
Comes out once a week.
From there, he launched a podcast.
Green flags.
I’m still looking for my road.
But I will continue writing the emails.
Because I may not have figured it out, but it’s one small stab at a time.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
And now, a word from today’s advertiser:
The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.
That’s what this newsletter delivers.
I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.
Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.
Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.
